Volunteering Program

“Love is not patronizing and charity isn't about pity, it is about love. Charity and love are the same -- with charity you give love, so don't just give money but reach out your hand instead.”― Mother Teresa

The Chestnut Tree warmly welcomes volunteers of all backgrounds throughout the year. As an organization that values knowledge sharing, we believe that everyone has something unique to offer, and we encourage exchange and collaboration among our volunteers - after all, the more diverse the group, the greater the opportunity for new perspectives and insights.

If you would like to stay with us for an extended period, we are proud to be certified by Gaia Education, and we can offer certification under the program "The School We Want". This program empowers individuals to be changemakers in their communities, and we are thrilled to be a part of this movement.

If you are interested in learning more about volunteering with us or pursuing certification under "The School We Want" program, please don't hesitate to contact us - we would be delighted to hear from you!

Volunteering stories

Hello everyone,

As you might know, we often welcome volunteers at our school.

We have been so lucky to count on so many friends coming to join us for a week or more!

We would love to share the experience we had with some of our friends.

Thomas Betschart's visit and contribution to our permaculture special class was a wonderful example of this.

As a passionate nature enthusiast, Thomas shared his knowledge and expertise in permaculture and mineralogy with our students. He not only taught them about sustainable living practices but also actively engaged them in building a greenhouse.

With his patient guidance and attention to detail, the students were able to participate in the construction process and gain hands-on experience.

We are grateful to Thomas for his selfless contribution to our community and for inspiring us with his creativity and dedication to the environment.

His visit was a beautiful gift that will continue to benefit our students for years to come.

We invite anyone who shares our passion for nature and sustainability to join us in our efforts to transform living spaces and create a better future for all.

To know more about Thomas's amazing work, there is an inspiring documentary on SRF about him and his brother's endeavors in the Swiss Alps! Thomas rocks, literally! :)
